It is the most popular destination in this area for the casual visitor. There is no trail here but the area of interest is obvious from the parking lot. It’s only about 1 to 2 km to make your way between the boulders through the heath barren of stunted blueberry, huckleberry, mountain laurel and azalea. The views to the east of the Allegheny front include North Fork Mountain and Shenandoah Mountain. After scrambling around these outcroppings I was intrigued by a high point to the north west. I took an indirect route through some soggy cranberry bogs and blooming rhododendron and stunted one sided spruce trees. On looking at map I only saw this boulder strewn high point marked as point 4109, I’m not aware of another name, I did find a couple of survey marks. I spent about 1.5 hours taking pictures and meandering around this area. |
