Cap de Creus is the Eastern most point in Spain and depending on how you look at it the beginning or end of The Pyrénées. There’s a lighthouse and restaurant there contained within the Cap de Creus National Park, a News Years day gathering place for those wanting to see the first light of the New Year touch Spain.Began this hike at a hotel in Port Lligat, Spain , initially it is necessary to walk on streets that take you by the Salvador Dali house and museum ,where he lived and worked 1930-1982,did not stop there except to take a picture. By the way I should add there is a road you can take to the lighthouse. After traveling up Cami de S’Alqueria a paved road near the last residence you reach the park where you can easily locate the trail to take to the lighthouse which is well marked with green and red blaze . The tread is reminiscent of the Superstitions very rocky and dirt packed, the hike is surprisingly strenuous due to the up and down ridges to cross but the views along the rocky coastline were phenomenal . Outward bound saw only one other hiker on the return two small groups were encountered. Despite the presence of lots of Olive trees there is no real shade on this trail therefore in warm weather go early and or take plenty of water , there is no water along this route, Did encounter large prickly pear cactus plants and tasty wild blackberries. It was windy this day but the trail was sheltered from the north wind until reaching the lighthouse, If you enjoy seeing a rugged coastline this hike is for you. |
