I can’t believe how warm and dry it is even at the 7000’ elevation level, it was the first time I truly had to turn around on a hike because of my dogs sensitivity to heat in a very long time.
The 12:30pm sun was just too much for my little dog even with extra water, breaks and shade and I don’t blame her I felt like I was walking in a arid high country oven.
We walked back to the truck for a nap and some lunch and then gave it another go around 4:30pm which was much much better!
Couple of the canyons and draws we hiked through are wildlife havens and a hunters paradise, turkey, elk, mule deer and bears galore.
Even though I didn’t encounter a single living animal there were clear tracks, signs or body parts from the afermentioned animals found throughout my hike.
Even though I did not complete my full intended loop it was still such a great time exploring and wandering through yet again completely new land for me in Mogollon Rim Country. |
