Now that the Tonto National Forest lifted their fire closure areas, in spite of a forecast of rain, I decided to go up to the Rim Country and do this hike, which I had never done before. In fact, I had never been to the Two Sixty TH, which is where I started and ended this hike. Tracie, my intrepid hiking partner, and I did the hike CCW, starting on the Military Sinkhole Trail to the Rim Lake Vista Trail to the Drew Trail and finally to the Highline Trail.

When we got to the TH there was some light rain, so we drove up to the rimroad and drove to the lookout near where the sinkhole trail meets the Vista Trail. This was my first time driving on the rim road, although I have hiked up to it and/or on it a number of times. The rain was starting to subside, so we drove back to the 260 TH and began the hike.

The trails on the hike were nice, although I didn't care for the paved portion of the Rim Lake Vista Trail. There was a lot of cloud cover on this day, so the views from the edge of the rim weren't as nice as they typically are. Just about the time that we got off the Rim lake Vista Trail and began the off-trail jaunt over to FR 9350 the bottom fell out and we got deluged with rain -- I wound up being as wet as I would be if I jumped in and out of a swimming pool. Thankfully there was no lightning!

All-in-all this was an enjoyable hike and is one that I would do again!
