| no partners | | I was looking for a hike that wasn't too far away from the VOS and that was in a cooler area, and this one fit the bill!
The hike begins and ends at the 260 TH, which is right off of Highway 260 and is easy to get to.
This is a fairly easy hike -- the elevation gain is modest for the distance. You get most of the elevation gain out of the way in the first 2 miles of the hike, which goes from the 260 TH up to the Rim on the Military Sinkhole Trail.
I enjoy the portion of the hike that is along the Rim -- there are several lookouts that have really nice views to the south. A couple of miles or so are some easy off-trail hiking.
I saw a deer on the off-trail portion of the hike up on the Rim, and saw an Arizona Black while coming down from the Rim on the Drew Trail. The snake was about 4-5 feet off the trail and was shaking his rattle and was coiled up to strike, as if he was some sort of bada$$. I laughed at him and he eventually slithered away. |
