| no partners | | The whole group agreed to start early.... I hit the trail around 5am. I mentally break this down into 3 sections. Derrick to Highline, Highline to Horton Spring, Horton Spring to the car. The fist section went good. I saw twocow elk in this section. The grade is not to steep. The second section went good too. It has 2 climbs but not bad at all. I saw 2 cow elk at the start of this section and 2 bull elk right before I dropped into Horton Creek. The first two sections show a little wear from rain runoff. The last section is in the best shape and I like seeing the spring and creek for my final leg. Really nice loop. I hade shade for 99% of the first 2 sections and probably 75% of the last one . I saw one fungi on a tree and one mushroom. Thought I would see more. I saw no hikers on the first 2 sections. I saw 2 camps across creek on the last section but no hikers until 7:50. Then I saw 1 couple and 1 more at the trailhead . Really nice morning to be on trail! |
