I got sent to California for software training for two days. I have to be there at 8am Monday morning, making a Sunday road trip necessary. I decided to look on the HAZ map for any nearby hike, salvaging my Sunday. Morton Peak looked like the closest one.

This hike basically just follows the dirt road from road 38. After the 1.5 mile mark, the road is restricted to only hikers and horses, but it's still a road. Before that point, a few vehicles passed me on the way up. The views to the east of the mountains are very nice. There was a storm brewing to the east, but fortunately it never materialized. The tower looks nice, and there's a picnic table next to it. A sign on the tower says restoration improvements will be completed soon, but it's dated 2001.

On the way back down I hiked about a half mile on the Santa Ana River Trail until some sprinkles started to hit me. That trail is a regular single track trail and was nicer to hike as opposed to a road. It's also mostly level, with a slight downhill grade.

On the way back down the road, I hiked a faint trail up to a small peak since I had hoped to hike a few more miles than I did.
