I was determined to make it to the border, but then I saw that I missed a turnoff to the left that goes up over the hill. I was just short of the border when I noticed this and tried to double back to find where I missed it. Once I was headed back, I was pretty in go back to car mode. Probably one of the hardest hikes I've done with such an even grade, probably due to the heat. Soap Creek canyon had me feeling the same way when I completed it, but it was much hotter and had more AEG.
A light rain started with a quarter mile left. Thunder was on and off from the 4 mile mark. Saw quite a lot of deer, both on the "trail", as well as on the road in.
Checked into a hotel in Nogales and currently resting and refueling for Atascosa Lookout tomorrow. |
