I needed to keep it short and local, so going up to the Fountain Hills preserve seemed like a good option. The new Adero Canyon Trailhead just opened last month, allowing much quicker access to trails that you previously had to get to from the north via the Eagles Nest Sonoran Trailhead.
We started out hiking out and back on both the Overlook and Easy Access Trails, which head south from the trailhead. The Easy Access Trail is basically just a spur trail from the Overlook Trail. After that, we did the Promenade/Western Loop loop. At the end of the Western Loop Trail, we took the Bike Loop Trail, which serves as a type of a bypass trail for bikers. The Western Loop Trail is the most rugged, with a lot of loose rock and steep switchbacks. It's labeled at "Extremely Difficult", but we all thought moderately difficult would be more accurate.
The lighter hazy clouds made for some nice lighting over the mountains. The views range from the Mazatzals down to Picacho Peak and Mt. Lemmon, and from the Superstitions over to the Estrellas. the track I posted says 3.5 miles, but RS glitched out on me at the start and wasn't actually recording for the first 0.3 miles before I noticed and restarted it.
