Driving into Carefree and seeing people sledding at the golf courses we knew we were in for a treat today! Many people had the same idea so seven springs road was a highway. Immediately past the turnoff for the Sears Kay Ruins we were met with a winter wonderland. Solid 3-4 inches of snow made this place look like a postcard. The road was thankfully mostly clear due to all the traffic. Pulled off just after the cabins at Camp Creek and began our adventure. Jumped into a wash and followed that to a side canyon up onto the Maricopa Trail. We then decided we wanted to see the Snow covered Mazzies and climbed up to the top of an unnamed Butte. Was much steeper than it looked and all the snow made it quite the slog. Once at the top we were blown away by the views of the Mazzies! Spectacular. The pictures don’t do it justice. Returned down a different ridge line and once we made it back to the car were amazed to see how much snow melted. Glad we enjoyed seeing the desert buried in snow before it all melts. |
