| no partners | | Six years ago my wife and I walked up a canyon from the Seven Springs Road to see some petroglyph sites I'd been to before and see what else there was along the way. Today I planned a variation of that where I'd branch off into a side-canyon and continue along to a shelf where I spotted a ruin in the satellite view. And, what the heck, I'd pass the nice glyph sites on the way back.
I left the side-canyon when it got too choked but was lucky to pass an isolated petroglyph as I went up to the ridge crest. Getting to the "ruin shelf" hadn't looked bad on a topo map but the traverse over was slow. The ruin was unimpressive (as expected) - most noteworthy was a couple faint petroglyphs and one upright stone that may have been part of an internal doorway. I don't think many people visit.
On the way back I went by three familiar petroglyph sites which I'd been to before - some very nice stuff. I noticed one "new" glyph in between but the highlight was a cave at the 3rd site. Pretty rare for me to run across such a good shelter but except for the well-blackened ceiling I didn't see any signs of people or animals using it.
More action than usual! [ youtube video ] |
