No brush until you reach the creek, then it's almost impossible to avoid getting at least a few scratches. Some water flowing, but all was easily avoided. Just a trickle at the falls, but they were mostly frozen over, which was a nice sight. The ice was melting and falling in large chunks, so we couldn't get to close to the walls. We ate lunch near the base of the falls, sheltered behind a large boulder to avoid the falling ice. It was interesting to hear the almost constant cracking sound of the ice. Slightly easier hike back out along the creek, and the long climb out wasn't too bad with a nice, cool breeze. We finished up just as the heavier clouds were rolling in. Lots of castoff/fallen items all along the trail--rental car keys, tarp, sleeping bag, large air mattress (I don't even want to think about how heavy that was to carry), sunglasses, etc. Only saw four other people all day--two backbackers, two hunters. The backpackers had managed to lock their keys in their car. Once we had cell service, we called a few locksmiths for them, but no one was willing to drive out that far. We texted the girls and told them to cut their losses and break the back window--probably cheaper than a locksmith would have been anyway. It was great to meet Laurie, and nice to do another hike in the snow-covered Supes. |
