After the official trail ended, the use trail was overgrown with grass in several places and a little more difficult to follow. Luckily, if you looked around enough, you could spot the next cairn or some open trail ahead to keep you going in the right direction. The trail climbed steeply in places a couple of miles in. Once up close to the ridge, the incline leveled off somewhat and headed over towards the peak. The were a few rocks to climb over in places, but nothing difficult. It was a clear day, and the views from the top were good. Once the angle of the sun lowered, we could see the sunlight reflecting off the Sea of Cortez far off in the distance. Going back downhill, the route wasn't any easier to follow in places, but easy to pick back up again anytime we lost it. We finished up right at sunset, which gave a nice view of the late afternoon sun on the mountains. Fun hike, and it was worth the 3+ hour drive from the southeast Valley. |
