| no partners | | I was originally thinking of just hiking Black Mesa Loop, but by the time I got to the trailhead, I'd decided to tack on Black Top Mesa. Great weather at the start, a little cool, but perfect once I started moving. Started on Second Water and took that to Black Mesa Trail. There were a few pools of water along Second Water. Black Mesa was muddy in places, but the trail was clear of brush. A few pools of water here and there too. I saw several backpackers along Black Mesa. Once I reached Dutchman, I headed over to Bull Pass trail. Made my way up to the saddle, then up to the top of Black Top Mesa. The trail is very clear and easy to follow, no cactus to worry about. Took a snack break at the top, then headed back down. Since the weather was so nice, I decided to continue east on Bull Pass and loop back around on Dutchman. The eastern half of Bull Pass is brushy in places, but not bad. Headed south on Dutchman and around the south end of Black Top Mesa. Lots of water in places, plenty of flowers too. Saw plenty of people on Dutchman once I passed Peralta. I finished up around 2pm, a little later than I had originally planned, but a great day to be outside. |
