| no partners | | Eldest and I both had the day off so we dropped the younglings off at daycare and headed out to the Supes. He (5yrs old) did mostly fine on the climb up Peralta Trail, two breaks along the way, though the complaining was thick for the last half mile. We had a healthy pause at the saddle before heading over to Cave Trail. He perked up as we headed downhill, frequently impressed by the alcoves along the way and the big views. That hairy section by the bathtub was even more hairy while trying to coach a kid on down-climbing, he followed my instructions carefully and we made it down safely. As expected, there was always several cairned paths to chose from along the way, and we made some bad choices that led to some bushwhacking for the last half-mile to Bluff Springs. All in all it was a terrific day with him and we got back in town just in time to pick up the younglings, still clad in dusty boots and glowing from the experience.
Oh, and the trail traffic was minimal. Maybe eight groups on Peralta Trail and no one on Cave Trail. We picked a perfect day to do this one. |
