Right at the beginning was a minor detour, either for the new cabins or maybe some trail repair, that adds some distance. Unfortunately, much of the detour is on paved roads, which both takes the fun out of it and makes dealing with kiddos more stressful. Anyways, the boys made good time heading up the trail, probably because the temps were nice and we were in shade the entire team. They needed a little help at the slick rock sections past Gatekeeper, otherwise kept a steady pace all the way to the waterfall. We rested here, snacking and letting the girl stretch her legs outside the carrier, before heading back down. Aside from a few outbursts, I was very impressed with the way they handled the loose rocks and numerous little obstacles, and am still trying to wrap my head how my 3 & 5 year olds are tackling trails like this. Then again, I saw a dad and his 7 year old heading up to Flatiron, so there's that. |
