After talking to one of the stewards about our mileage goal we followed her suggestion of the Cone Mountain Loop accessed from the Upper Ranch trail. We started out about !:50 in the afternoon under a beautiful blue sky. The entire trail turned out to be a nice smooth track that allows hikers to enjoy the views around them. The flowers were incredible! Patches of poppies, poppies and lupines and just lupines. We marveled at the beauty of it all. Oddly even though the parking lot was full we saw few hikers and bike riders. Even though the elevation gain is minimal the up an down nature of the trail had my calves complaining a little toward the end. However the effort was well worth it. |
