I also had and objective in mind, finding the cactus known as the Michelin Man that I had seen a photo of on this site recently. I got underway a little before 3 on this beautiful afternoon. this was a very quiet hike with minimum encounters with others. I found myself maneuvering around more horse droppings than I had ever before. I reached the junction with the Quartz Trail without seeing the cactus in question. I continued on the Slate Trail for a little bit past the Flume Trail junction. I had the cactus location from the photo that was shared so I kept an eagle eye out on the return trip and was rewarded with sighting it! I realized why I did not see it on the way out. I am blind in my right eye and seeing as it is off the trail and elevated it was not in my field of vision. Coming back it was on my left side and I was able to see readily. That is one crazy looking cactus!. The area is very green with isolated flower presence. A great hike with me seeing an area that I had not seen before and saw a unique cactus specimen. |
