I'd never done the Gold Ridge and most of the things I read did not give it high ratings. I enjoyed this climb. It didn't hurt that the flower show was pretty darn good in the 4,000' to 5,000' range. There were more types of flowers on this hike than I've seen on a single hike. Joe documented them well in his triplog. https://hikearizona.com/x.php?x=164563
No Grasshoppers had lunch waiting for us at the top of this one. We trudged on.
I'd been on South Fork before and the memories came back of all the downed trees. There has been major work to clear them... and there's more to go. We hit more fields of flowers on the way down while traversing the flowing South Fork of Deer Creek. |
