| no partners | | I had a free morning and decided to sneak in a quick loop at Usery Park. I have not done the entire Pass Mountain Loop in a while and today I decided to remedy that.
The parking lot was in overflow mode when I arrived a little before 9am. Once I got away from the Wind Cave Trail, the crowd thinned out. I did see a fair amount of people on the trail for a Thursday, but I still had plenty of “alone time”.
The flowers are still blooming out at Usery, especially the brittle brush. Lots of yellow dotting the desert. The hedgehog cacti are coming out right now too. Purple and yellow, mixed with the green (and reds) from the grasses. The ocotillo was nice a green and blooming too. Very colorful time of year.
The loop was the same as always. A nice little hike with some excellent scenery. I opted for the clockwise loop from the Wind Cave Trailhead.
My sore ankle for my torture-fest at Devil’s Canyon last Saturday did fine. I think I picked the perfect trail to get in some miles and not go crazy with elevation or rugged hiking. |
