| no partners | | I just noticed that I neglected to post this hike that I did back in July, and since it is better to be late than never, I thought that I would post this hike now.
On a hot Sunday morning we started the hike at the Meridian TH, which is at the northern terminus of Meridian Road in Apache Junction/Mesa. We started the hike at 5:30 AM, and the temperature was 88-89 degrees.
The hike was basically a combination of the Peak 3004 Loop Hike and the Pass Mountain Loop Hike. From the TH, we went north on the Bulldog Saddle Trail to Bulldog Saddle; then we looped around on the north side of Peak 3004, dropping down into the valley below and then coming back up to the Pass Mountain Saddle; then we went CCW around Pass Mountain to the Usery Park TH; from there we followed the Pass Mountain Loop Trail to a ravine a short distance from our starting point; then we followed a use trail through the ravine back to the TH.
This was a good hot weather exercise hike: most of the elevation gain was in the first 3 miles before the sun got up too high. It was a bit hot in the latter part of the hike though, as there was no escape from the sun.
We saw a diamondback on the Pass Mountain Trail. The snake was not very ornery though, as it just slithered off the trail underneath some rocks. |
