We hit up Mt Ord to beat the heat two weeks in a row but didn't want to hit the Rim on a weekend so we looked eastward.
It's been two years since we hit the Bellevue Ghost Town from FR 320 we decided on a return trip, except from the east via Forest Road 349 and/or 2.

Obviously it wouldn't be as cool as Ord so we were out-the-door & on-the-road by 5 am. An hour drive on the 60 to the turn onto Forest Road 349 across from the Pinto Mine and a 25 minute drive to the end of FR 349 which just happens to be the start of FR 2.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the great condition of the first 7 miles of FR 349, being in the best shape I'd ever seen it since my first trip on it with the Samurai, seemingly ages ago. (Ok, so it was only eight years ago)

I had originally planned to drive another 1.25 miles on FR 2 then do and out-and-back to Bellevue but when perusing the area with Route Editor on Satellite view I saw where the old FR 2 used to continue north to the MF Ranch, it was a given we'd make it a loop.

Following FR 2 south from FR 349 was easy enough but heading west along FR 2519 and FR 995 had far more elevation changes than expected based on the track in Route Editor, with the steep and loose downhills being even a bit dangerous. By time we made it to Bellevue neither of us felt up to exploring the areas we had not checked out in 2017 and we felt no need to rehash the rest of it. It appears other than the piles of broken pipes everything else has been taken and the large metal building is now empty but for a few wood pallets and animal droppings.

There was plenty of water in the quarry by the building but no fresh animal tracks... and no bear scat like we encountered last trip, not that we expected to.

The last half of the hike was basically a road-walk on old FR 3 to the no longer on-the-map old FR 2 and back to the start. Near the end we scared up two quite large owls, but of course were unable to grab even a quick photo as they flew away.

So, a bit less mileage yet more elevation gain than planned but we were done before the temp was much over 80.
