With no plans I just started driving north on Bush Highway until I feeling and urge to stop for a hike.
No joy along Bush so now I'm on the Beeline.
East on Four Peaks Road? Nope.
West on Sycamore Creek road? Nope.
Mesquite Wash? Hmmm... let's see. I've hit the Sycamore Creek petroglyphs twice this year so I'll try the other direction.
Began by following old illegal ATC track, spotted something shiny so of course I had to check it out. Turned out to be some type of water gauge with no markings as to which agency may use it.
The ATC track ended so now what? Might as well get some AEG so I headed for the summit of Peak 2488.
Wandered around the summit before descending the other side toward Sycamore Creek. Not much fun on the descent... what with the cholla, buckhorn cholla, mesquite, cat's-claw, pincushions and what-have-you.
Hit the wide wash of Sycamore Creek and began the loop back to the start. Not very fun plodding along in the soft sand/stones of the wash but it was better than the two times I attempted to skirt alongside in the brush... both times I had to back-track to get out of impassable detours.
By time I reached FR 160 again I was thoroughly soaked so instead of adding miles I plodded back to the 'Runner.
Not much for miles or AEG, but good enuf! |
