I was a little SE of the other places I've been going recently and there was less ancient pottery on the ground, but still some. There were quite a few small forts, stacked stone circles on small hills with a view (particularly) to the eastern plain and the Little Colorado River - that kept it interesting.
I eventually met up with my planned route which connected spots that look noteworthy in the satellite view. Some of these were interesting but I did just as well stumbling on random finds. On the return I ran across several ruins/habitation sites. These are overgrown rock piles with pottery scattered around - less pottery though than the ruins a few miles NW. I also passed a couple interesting low hilltops that had been extensively "landscaped": large cleared area, many small circular forts, and long (but low) stacked walls.
Pretty good day: about 70deg at the start but about 100 deg at the end. |
