Well I screwed up and forgot my GPS which held my carefully drawn ruin loop. I realized this as I approached Wupatki NM. There was a one hour interlude I spent on the phone with my wife attempting to bring up Route Scout. Given that I barely know how to turn the phone on and have never installed an app it came very close to being successful. But alas it was not, and doomed from the start with 14% battery.

Instead I just got somewhere near my planned start and did a random walk through cinder and pinyon country. Turned out not bad at all as there was enough scattered pottery pieces and small stacked stone "forts" to keep it interesting. I kept the walk short and then drove over to Grand Falls (hadn't been before) for some recon. Lot of miles on the Subaru but enjoyable day in the end.
