| no partners | | Wrapping up some loose ends. Needed to recover from the irritating process of migrating my desktops from Win 7 to 10, and the interruption of my photo stream processing that is just now recovering. Anyhow, decided to go to a mine, but had to skirt the private land. I opted for full stealth hiking mode, brown, green, grays for clothing and pack. No reflective material. Carried a map proving the land boundaries. I also timed the hike for the sun to be in the eyes of anyone observing from a nearby ranch.
Really nice hike, parked at a cattle tank and set off in rolling grass lands for some hills. Soon in great mesquite, oak groves the understory kept clear by cattle, really quite storybook walking in there in the early light. I kept to the edge of the foothills and on the forest according to the map. The mine was not much, some equipment, a deep shaft, but looked mostly reclaimed and I did not find an adit. I went back and strayed off my course, saw a nice cattle tank and a few forest boundary markers, illegible, and one sign on the ground.
Back to the mine adit I had found earlier, past the 5 lock gate, and it was a pretty nice long straight adit, but again nothing much going on, some bats and a few interesting mineralizations. Came out and went up and over and found the filled in shaft, this was a haulage tunnel for that. To the Jeep and home for the short day but good to get out as usual. |
