Put this triplog with Bassett as I think some ( I do) find all these Ash creeks sometimes confusing. Anyhow on drive in saw some great herons at a cattle pond, 30 or so deer right over the hill from the hunter meadow and a rafter of turkeys almost in my camp.
I rudely woke up FOTG, Katie and said hello to Chumley and of course famous Blanco, et al. Ended up hiking with them a bit at the end.
Color is very good, reminds me of my first trip or two into this canyon. As I do left the trail, worked the drainages till I got tired of the scrambling, went up the House of Red ( sidedrainage all red maples), just got color overload. Checked out a large alcove up and out of the canyon, got some nice overviews of the drainage. Nothing exciting there, a very faded rancher or hiker glyph in the back. Huge, but not a level floor. Drainage off Bassett just loaded with color, might return just to do that. It would be a tough route up though. Lots of photos, almost overwhelming. This is the time to be here, some of the trees are done, but unless big wind should be good hopefully through next weekend. |
