| no partners | | I've been wanting to hike this again since when I hiked it last year there was a lot of smoke limiting visibility. I am happy to say that this turned out to be a great day to make the hike--sunny with some clouds and very little wind. This is a well maintained and popular trail, with no difficult sections except perhaps a short steeper section to the peak on loose rock. Visibility was fantastic and it was nice to see Mt. Shasta from the peak of Lassen. Perhaps I will summit Shasta some day...but that is an endeavor I have yet to seek. From the peak of Lassen, I could see many of the lakes in the Lassen area and distant mountain ranges. I made it up before the crowds and shared the summit with just one couple who spent plenty of time enjoying the calm weather. There is a small weather station with solar panel at the summit that is used to measure snow depth and temperature. I felt great on the hike up and down, then ate lunch in the Kings Creek area because the Lassen Peak parking lot is very exposed and not a good spot for lunch. My legs began to feel sore a while after returning home in Redding, but they feel much better now after dinner and jacuzzi. I didn't know what I was going to do this weekend, but I'm glad I chose Lassen Peak! |
