September 9, 2019. This hike can only be reached by boat, on the Green River. It's one of the more spectacular hikes on a lower Green River canoe/kayak trip. It's fairly straightforward, as hikes go. You pull into kind of a steep beach, secure your boats very well, and follow the trail to the narrow top of the bend. In order to paddle around to the other side (where I'm told there is another, much rougher, trail to the top of the bend) it is 7 miles.

This was probably one of the best trips I've ever been on of any type (kayak, raft, backpack, bike, etc.). I enjoyed it way more than any of the Grand Canyon river trips I've been on, because I had my own boat and gear, and there were fewer people in the group. Four of us were on the river for two weeks, covering 100 miles, between Ruby Ranch and Spanish Bottom, which is on the Colorado River, about 4 miles below the Confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers. 3 kayaks and a canoe. Each of us fairly self-sufficient. No big elaborate meals with big tables, like on a GC river trip. Just simple, the way I like it. We were required to carry a groover (toilet) however, or you could bring "poop tubes," (but they can stink!) That's one reason for having one canoe in the group, because it can carry a small groover. However, if I ever do the trip solo, I'd have to go with a poop tube. It's a flatwater trip, with only one very small riffle to negotiate. The distance of 100 miles can easily be covered in a week or less, but we wanted to take our time. When we reached Spanish Bottom we were met by a jet boat service, Tex's Riverways, which brought us and a lot of other people up the Colorado River to Moab. The same company also launched us at Ruby Ranch. We were surprised how many people showed up for the jet boat, because we hadn't seen very many along the way.
