This remote Central AZ exploration, details courtesy of HAZ-MountainMatt, was a first time area visit for me. With some shared information from Matt, Larry and I planned to explore two different parts of the state which included a whole lot of planned driving miles for our day events.

Our 1st visit- Drive ended with the longest, roughest, strictly 4WD, 3.5 mile one way road I have been on in a long time  I'm glad that we were in Larry's FJ with his new BFG KO2 10 ply tires. At one point on the drive out, I mentioned to him that now I know when heavier, 10 ply off-road tires can add an additional amount of safety and security. On the drive in, we finally had enough of the slow 4-Wheeling and found the right location to park and start our off-trail, cross-country hike.

Our destination had awesome near and distant Rim Canyon Views where the Ancients had constructed a sizable compound which we estimated to be maybe as many as fifteen dwelling rooms. Lots of rocks and walls that had now mostly fallen victim to the centuries past. The Ancients came here for the views with fairly convenient water access and.. stayed.

Our 2nd visit- On our continuing long driving day, we headed to another one of MountainMatt's finds, an interesting, ancient pictograph detail. We only had a road name and a general area location for this one, so we spent some time trying to locate the exact location within a large boulder field rock outcropping area. After no luck, we finally gave up and headed back to our vehicle but just in time, a friendly area resident saw us hiking up his road and stopped his vehicle to point out the exact alcove/overhang location of this illusive pictograph panel. It was a worthwhile hike and visit back up.

It was a long driving day, another fun, rewarding, and fresh air exploration thanks to @MountainMatt .. and ..fortunately for me, my vehicle was parked at an "In-N-Out Burger" so I had something additional to look forward too :)
