Making the best of it, we decided to head up to Spruce Mountain Road for an out-n-back just so we could get some much needed exercise in. To our surprise the trail was not crowded and offered some seclusion until the evening hours, where that all changed. We noticed about a dozen groups headed up as we were headed back as well as a group of quads which seemed to ignore the signage on the trail. Overall I think this would be a great winter hike and perhaps the fall months but it still beats the 100+ degrees in the valley. Most of the trail is in the trees (Ponderosa and Oak) and I can't complain too much about that! It was nice to get outside and take a sniff.
FYI - Don't speed through Dewey/Mayer/Prescott Valley. I know they're pretty strict through this area to begin with but it seems like the enforcement is extra strict right now. |
