Not having the confidence to adventure solo in areas untraveled and having an excessive pack weight, I decided on Houston Brothers. This was familiar landscape for me and I have hiked this trail a few times prior. Unfortunately a sprain and tumble cut my trip to Pinchot Cabin a bit short and I ended up camping at McFarland Spring. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of people on the trail. Still fairly busy, I expected it to be much busier than normal. The under story seems to be coming back nicely, wildflowers are starting to come up, and I had an encounter with a decently sized Cinnamon Black Bear. Overall it was a good trip, despite the injury, and I hope to return this summer to complete the east loop. |
