| no partners | | I decided to escape the heat of the Valley and head up to the Rim Country and take advantage of the recently reopened Tonto National Forest.
We started and ended the hike at the Hatchery TH on FR 289, just below the Tonto Fish Hatchery. We went up the Babe Haught Trail all the way to Knoll Lake, and then did a loop around the lake before coming back to the TH on the Babe Haught Trail
It is a steep climb on the Babe Haught Trail up to the Rim. The trail is fairly rocky, but it looks like some trail maintenance had been done in the recent past, so there was no issue with overgrowth on the trail. Once you get up on the Rim, the trail is very, very nice to hike on, especially the section from the Rim Road to the lake. You need to watch your footing on some portions of the loop around the lake, lest you twist an ankle or something.
There was quite a bit of water in the lake, unlike my previous trip up there in 2018, when the lake was really low.
The temperature was very pleasant up on the Rim, and there was a good bit of cloud cover in the morning. This is a very nice hike! |
