| no partners | | I decided to take advantage of an ever-so-slight break in the hot weather to do this hike. We got an early start, and it was actually nice out -- there was cloud cover for all but about the last 1.5 miles of the hike.
I came across a gila monster on the Prospector Trail, but he seemed camera shy and he went off the trail into some grass and bushes before I got a chance to take his pic.
I went the usual route on this hike: From the parking lot at the Golden Eagle TH in Fountain Hills, we went 0.6 miles on the subdivision sidewalks to the Dixie Mine Trail; the we followed the Dixie Mine Trail to Thompson Peak Rd; then we went to the Prospector Trail and took it to the Bell Pass Trail; then we took the Bell Pass Trail up to Bell Pass. We then retraced the route back to the TH, except that we took a short detour to the Dixie Mine and the petroglyphs near the mine.
We only saw 4 other hikers on the trail. |
