I had been wanting to do this hike, so I decided to do it on day 3 of my Tour de Colorado.

I started and ended the hike at the Kite Lake TH, and did the loop clockwise.

The hike up to Democrat was basically a class 1 walk-up until you get to a saddle between Democrat and Cameron at about 13,400 feet. From there you basically rock scrambling up to the summit of Democrat, and for me the going was a bit slow both going up and coming down.

After returning to the saddle I had to regain about 800 feet to summit Cameron. The summit of Cameron was flat and I walked around a bit to make sure that I got the high point. From there, the descent down to the saddle between Cameron and and Lincoln was only a couple hundred feet, so the climb up to Lincoln was relatively short, and was on a nice wide trail. Even at this saddle, the elevation was over 14,000 feet.

It was an easy-to-follow and easy to hike trail going from Lincoln to Bross. In going from Lincoln to Bross you never get below 13,900 feet, so the ascent up to Bross isn't very long.

The descent down Bross is a doozy though -- it is very steep and slippery, and I certainly would not want to do it without trekking poles. I have a bad habit of falling on by butt on steep descents, and I took it very slow and managed to stay on my feet for the descent. As Bobby Bare might say, "that makes me the winner"!

There weren't nearly as many people on the trails as I would have thought, and it seemed like half the people out there were only ascending Democrat. I go to the TH around 6:30 and got one of the last parking spaces in the parking lot.

It was a clear day, although it got windy for the last 3 summits. There was not a cloud in the sky all day, and there was no sign of the smoke that had been in the area in the previous couple of weeks.
