After adding a regulation sign at General Springs we felt we needed to replace the next one north, where the AZT heads north and the Cabin Loop stays in the canyon. And while doing that why not add a steel AZT emblem sign to make sure everyone knows what that other trail is? Boy Scout Jack from Peoria Troop 529 wanted some service hours so we roped him and his family into the project.
The crawler/hauler made getting tools and signs to the site possible, even though we nursed it down and back up the rocky switchbacks. We tried out Home Depot's foam post set mix, seemed to work ok except for the supposed mix-n-the-bag feature. But we brought two bags along and made it work on the second try. Not quite like 120 pounds of concrete but it will probably hold the post upright for many years to come.
Several sets of backpackers came by while we worked. I can only imagine what they thought when they heard the jackhammer, but we didn't run it for very long.
Thank you Roger and the scouts.
Another great day on the AZT! |
