| no partners | | ATA volunteers ventured out to the Mormon Grove connector trail to replace a Wilderness Portal sign that had been vandalized. They harvested a native post on-site and mounted the heavy oak sign. Being in the Wilderness, no power equipment was allowed so the post hole was dug with a manual jackhammer, a bit slower than the crew’s usual generator and electric jackhammer.
We then went to the junction and cleaned the last of the varnish off the signs planted there maybe 6+/- years ago. Nothing stands up to the AZ sun.
About as many years ago a troop of Boy Scouts and families built a series of rubble dams to check erosion down the ditched-in trail. I hadn't checked on it for several years so we went to see. It has worked as expected, but for the cheatgrass that seeded in rather than some native grasses. Maybe the FS will spring for some and we can have more scouts involved.
Another fine day on the AZT! |
