| no partners | | Arizona Trail Association partnered with the Friends of the Tonto group to apply for a State Parks maintenance grant for work on the Campaign Trail/Reavis Gap Trail connector route. This is in the remote eastern Superstition Wilderness. After years (literally) the archeological concerns were mitigated, and work could begin. The crews are about to finish their third “hitch” so we went out today to see how it was going.
They have had some weather setbacks but have done quite a bit of work, digging huge drains on the steep slopes, re-benching where needed and erecting cairns through the burned over sections that are still subject to extreme post-fire erosion.
Our plan was to hike to the top, but we bailed as the snow picked up the higher we went. Flakes were the big “soda cracker” type until the wind picked up and things got uncomfortable.
Another fine day on a “connector” to the AZT. |
