Got started around 0615. Parking lot was already over half full. Smoky, but not too bad. Getting over Liberty Pass felt easy, then the downhill was nice. The second climb felt slower, especially the last bit up to Wines. Rested for a moment, then headed back down. Climbing back up to Liberty Pass felt like forever, but it was warmer and smokier by that point. Took the stock trail back to the trailhead to avoid the crowds. Great views, despite the smoke. Saw one beaver and seven deer. Aspens are changing color in Lamoille Canyon.
