Now that the weather is cooler, I figure that I will occasionally go check out some of the peaks west of Phoenix off of I-10, so I decided to do this one again today.

The first 2 miles are an easy, flat stroll through the desert, but the difficulty level increases the last 2 miles to the summit. Even though I had done this one a couple of times, I still had take some time for route finding. It is a steep, slippery climb to the summit, and an equally steep, slippery descent. It is a class 3 climb up on the summit block, but there is no real exposure. Great views at the summit!

We originally were going to hike Saddle Mountain-Tonopah on the way back to Phoenix, but we did not get back to the car until 1:30, so we decided to save that one for another time and head back to civilization.

Not surprisingly , we did not see anyone else on the hike.

It was a nice day for the hike. It was 37 degrees when we started and was sunny and 70 when we got back. If it had been a bit cooler I imagine that we would have gone ahead and done Saddle Mountain.
