we've been talking about doing a hike with dixieflyer for a few weeks
big horn was on his peak bagging list, and it's been five years since we were up there with denny
left town around 0600, think we were hiking by 0730
upper 30s, which is a little cooler than i prefer
once the sun came up and we started uphill, temps were fine
flat first couple of miles, then the fun starts
we did not take the most efficient route on the ascent, overshooting a couple of turns
the last segment is steep, with shifting rocks, scree and cholla
a little bit of scrambling on good rock, with a nice chute to get to the summit
spent some time on the summit - decently clear skies, good views of surrounding mountains, nice temps and no wind
brought one pole, which was a pita going up, but nice to have much of the descent
our descent line was much better
nice to do this one again, and get a good peak checked off with wade
