After my big hike I only gave myself 1 rest day. I really needed 2 days, and should have either come home to roast, or better yet gone to Utah for some R&R at Cedar Breaks, to come back to hike again, rested. Oh, well, live and learn. I planned on McFarland Peak, which is a solid interesting 10,700' summit. My legs were not having it, and by the time I made the Bonanza crest, uphill was painful. No way was I going to enjoy a 1000' gully scramble. I'm a little surprised I was as sore as I ended up being, as it wasn't a huge hike, but I think the steep slope had a lot to do with it. I'm not normally that sore after Kimball.

So, just past Divide Peak, I turned back and headed to the summit of Divide. It was enjoyable. Nice views of the Spring Mountain big boys.

Most of this is the lower Bristlecone Trail, and part of the Bonanza Trail. Those are nice, but fairly busy hikes. The bristlecone on the Bonanza is not as nice as the ones on the North Loop, but this area is probably drier, and more exposed, as well as lower. The Bristlecone trail is really mixed conifer, but there are some huge ponderosa pines.

I descended early and enjoyed diner at a picnic area in pinion pine, before a brief nap and a return drive to the valley oven where it was 117 today. Part of me wanted to go to Cedar Breaks, but the persistent Arizona Smoke was also in Utah, so maybe later this summer or more likely next year.
