To honor the occasion I did a little snowshoeing on Mt Lemmon. It doesn't really need repeating, but I'll never do something like I did 10 years ago, again. I'm over that.
I really wanted to use my repaired snowshoes since I spent a whopping $1.58 on some screws, washers, and nylon nuts to replace the missing parts from my 13 year old snowshoes. I did, on snow that was past it's prime, but still benefited from traction and the shoe size. So, I got my money's worth. Mount Lemmon isn't exactly the San Francisco Peaks, or even the Mogollon Rim, so the fact I was up here snowshoeing at all is something. It was 80 earlier this week in town!
I road walked from the Ski area with operating ski lifts and people skiing the slopes. I have never seen that here before, and I wonder how many times they have run in the last decade? Lots of new fire changes, but some might not even notice in a year or two.
It was cold and while the views were nice, I don't think I'll come back until it warms up, up here. Actually, I wonder how much I will come up here this summer. I have a few wishes; Catalina SP to Mt Lemmon (by shuttle if to be done), and Samaniengo Peak, but given that I live far enough away that it takes me over 90 minutes to get up here in light traffic, I would rather go to the Santa Ritas, Huachucas, or maybe the Pinalenos, instead. I mean, if not that much further. |
