Got started under sone partly cloudy skies, but the entire trail is shaded anyway this early in the morning. Made our way uphill, which is short and steep, gaining 1600’ in two miles. The trail is rocky in a few places, but in generally good shape. The kids ate some not quite ripe huckleberries, those tasted good anyway, and sampled something called Utah Honeysuckle, which they didn’t particularly care for.
Once at the saddle, we turned right and headed up to Blacktail Mtn. This last bit is most level, has a lot of flowers, and nice views along the pleasant walk. Took a break at the summit, and were welcomed with a light rainshower. The summit has plenty of rocks to sit on, and great views in most directions.
The hike back down was easy, but starting to get warm at the end. Didn’t see anyone else on the trail. If I lived in this area, this hike would be a go-to workout hike in nice weather. |
