| no partners | | Opted for a fairly local, but good workout, hike this morning. Forty minute, easy drive, from the house. Remembered to use bug spray this time, since it seems like there are always mosquitoes around the trailhead. Headed up Talache-Blacktail Trail. Steep climb for the firat two miles, seemed to be in slightly better shape than last year. Nice breeze, but very humid.
Once at the ridge, I turned right and made the easy walk over to the summit of Blacktail. Good views. Lots of bees, but they weren’t interested in me. Once done, I headed north on the trail, over Butler (not much of a summit) and down the north side of the mountain. Gradual descent at first, then steep.
I had hoped to have time today to complete the entire Talache trail, but at the intersection, decided it wasn’t in the cards today, so stayed left and headed up to the summit of 4326. Steep and rocky trail up. Saw two dirtbikers, they were friendly. The summit is broad and devoid of trees, with excellent views in all directions. Took some pics, enjoyed the breeze, then retraced my steps back out.
The climb back up and over Butler was another sweatfest, but then the final descent was easy, albeit rocky. Saw one slug, a few butterflies, and nothing else. Good hike for the mileage, and always a local favorite of mine. |

Wildflowers Observation Moderate Good variety of flowers along most of the hike. |
