Got a small group of fun girls together for a day hike up north! We wanted a decent amount of mileage, but nothing too crazy so I picked pivot rock canyon. I’m the only one who had been before so I did the route planning. Last summer @chumley took us on some psycho bushwhacking shenanigans so my route definitely avoided that part of the hike. I prefer to not scare away people who have never hiked with me before; at least not on the first trip! : wink :

We started from the official trailhead and headed directly to the spring. With all the rain we’ve been getting, I was actually quite surprised there wasn’t more flow; it was a bit more than trickle but definitely less than last year. Given less water flow, we were able to head deeper into the cave this time. Some of us went all the way to the back and around the corner and it was super interesting. I saw a cluster of bats on the ceiling but they didn’t move & we gave them their space. After we had our fill in there, we took a quick group shot them continued on.

Next up we arrived at pivot rock, which the girls really liked! Last year someone in our group found an ammo box and I recalled signing it. We searched hard and could NOT find it! Erica is actually a rock climber so she even got up to the top and it wasn’t there either. I’m super curious if it was removed or just really well hidden! :?

We continued on towards Tom’s canyon area and checked out the old cabin. Soon we encountered a lost dog and based on the collar buzzing, we knew the owner was nearby. Daniela & I continued on to the cabin to get Roshi away from the other dog while the other girls tried to calm down the dog and call for the owner. Soon we saw a man on horseback looking for his dog; we pointed him in the right direction and all ended well. With the group back together, we took a nice lunch break at the cabin before heading back to the trailhead.

The climb out was a tad tiring and we got a bit off track, but we figured it out and all made it back in one piece before the rain started. It was a really fun hike with a great group of gals and we had the whole place to ourselves with the exception of the one man on horseback. Gotta love that for a Saturday!

Erica, Daniela & I camped nearby to keep enjoying the beautiful temps a bit longer. All around great girls day up north!
