Kelly wanted to hike in cooler weather, so we drove up past Payson for this hike.
Temps were in the high 50's when we started up Derrick. The area had been hit by very heavy rain the day before. Parts of the trails were muddy and there was still flowing water in many places that are typically dry. Sighted a couple elusive black elk near the Highline trail (see Kelly's photoset).
Horton Spring was running strong as was the creek. Nice displays of wild flowers and fungi.
Fun day out on the trails. Thanks Kelly.
Wildflowers ObservationLight At least 12 different kinds.
