I was on my way back from Colorado and decided to take a detour through Flag in order to hike up to Slate Mountain. The Slate Mountain Trail was closed for over a year due to a forest fire, and only recently reopened.

There were wildflowers galore along the hike, so I am glad that I took the time to do the hike.

At one time there was supposedly a fire lookout on Slate Mountain -- a wood cabin that was constructed in 1941. I saw no signs of it though.
