The aspens were amazing on the drive. From the time I hit Highway 67 it was non-stop yellow aspen leaves for about 40 miles.
The dirt road drive was fine until I hit FR 268B, which I took for the last 7 miles. This road wasn't all THAT bad, but I would not want to drive it without 4WD. It was more like a jeep or farm road -- narrow, high centered in places, with several mud holes to drive through. It took me 55 minutes to go these 7 miles.
I parked not far from the tower and hiked on a spur road to the tower. It was about 3/4 mile round trip. I climbed up the tower as far as the trap door, which was padlocked shut.
The temperature was perfect, and with all the aspens in their autumn glory this was a very enjoyable drive. |

Autumn Foliage Observation Extreme The aspens were amAZing -- like the Inner Basin on steroids. |
