| no partners | | My original intent was to hike to Beautiful Mountain in NM, but weather was not cooperative so I decided to hike to Abajo Peak (elevation of 11,360 feet and prominence of 4,550 feet). Abajo Peak is in the Manti-Lasal National Forest, south of Moab.
There is a well graded dirt road that goes to the top of Abajo Peak, but I did not want to drive up, so I hiked instead.
The aspens were amazing -- they are pretty much at peak right now. Unfortunately, the summit was fogged in, and visibility was maybe 100 feet at the summit. So summit views were not what they otherwise would have been.
I am not sure what trails I was on, but I started off on a lesser used trail, then hit a well maintained trail, then hit a forest rpoad, and then hit the main road to the top. On the way back I missed a turn and added some elevation gain to the hike as I made my way back to where I was supposed to be.
I am really glad that I did this hike -- the aspen leaves were awesome! |

Autumn Foliage Observation Substantial Aspen leaves are at their peak right now, and there were lots of aspen groves. |
